The Occult Temple of Iscariot, 1984

Agenda: The Schism of the ███████ Order

For more than a century, the final private postal registry of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky remained sealed within her personal archives. Earlier this year, portions of the archive were breached and broken into. In the weeks that followed, sealed correspondences bearing Blavatsky’s signature began circulating across the world, addressed to individuals with no known connection to one another.

No official record exists of the organisation referenced within these letters, nor of the individuals mentioned within them. Only one such correspondence has since been recovered in full, bearing beneath Blavatsky’s signature a simple black seal inscribed with the words Temple of Iscariot. The following is a reproduction of that letter.

To the Chosen,

Cult (noun) [/kʌlt/]:  A system of belief devoted to a figure, an idea, or a truth so absolute that it demands obedience greater than law, loyalty greater than blood, and faith greater than reason.

They will teach you to fear that word. They will use it for movements they cannot control, for faiths they cannot regulate, for people who refuse to kneel before pre-approved gods. They will call it madness, manipulation and fanaticism.

But do not be deceived. The world has always belonged to cults.

What is a kingdom, if not a cult made hereditary? What is an empire, if not a cult enforced by armies? What is organised religion, if not a cult disguised as a blasphemous source of moral authority? Long before rulers understood power, institutions built on faith already did.

The Temple of Iscariot was where the leaders of those institutions convened. These people were not the priests who served gods, nor the kings who ruled men. They were the people who decided which gods were served and which kings would rule, the echelon above institutional power. Orders, cults, sects, dynasties, and hidden brotherhoods, the parallel pulse of power beneath the visible world, all met there, because above armies, above crowns, and above law, everything eventually kneels to belief.

The central problem with faith is governance. Belief can mobilise and discipline the masses.  In Weberian terms, charismatic authority must undergo Veralltäglichung (the entrenchment of that very charisma into durable institutional structures), if it is to survive beyond the individual who embodies it. Gramsci describes the same stability as cultural hegemony: power cannot endure in the form of coercion, however, it thrives when people accept the form of obedience as natural, necessary, and morally legitimate. Foucault understood the same principle differently: control is strongest when surveillance is internalised, that is, when people begin to monitor and discipline themselves because they have come to accept the expectations of authorities as their own.

So faith itself requires an architect, something to decide where belief is directed, which movements are permitted to rise, and which must die- or rather, which must be killed.

That architect was the Theosophical Society.

And from the Theosophical Society, every age has appointed a custodian of the Temple. A keeper who is the final archivist of the Temple: the last guardian of its records, secrets, and forbidden inheritance. The writer of Isis Unveiled and the protector of texts like The Zoharic Doctrine of Succession (1891), documents that were never meant to leave the hands of the Temple. A keeper wielding all the forbidden power that comes with the Temple: entrusted with authority and succession, but also duties and a burden. The burden of listening where others hear silence, of carrying the weight of voices that do not belong to the living, and of knowing that some doors, once opened, can never again be closed. For this age, that burden was mine.

And now, I am dead.

However, do not mistake my death for absence. Every Keeper leaves behind a final instrument: a will to their successors. Not merely a legal document, but the mechanism through which the Temple transfers power, records unfinished obligations, names successors, and determines what knowledge survives its custodian.

My will is not a testament of wealth or property in the ordinary sense. It is the exhumation of everything that they wanted to die with me. And within it are things that were never meant to survive me: names, objects, inheritances, and truths buried long before any of you were born. Secrets that built movements. Secrets that ended bloodlines. Secrets powerful enough to make governments kneel, or fall entirely.  But the will does not just reflect on the past; it, along with you, my children, will decide what is carried forward from my death, and what must be buried with my body. Within it are prophecies still unfolding, debts still unpaid and instructions still waiting to be carried out.

And perhaps you wonder why you are the chosen ones- why, among all those who built empires, infiltrated governments and possessed power, it is your movements that have been summoned here. To that, I ask you: did you truly believe I would leave something this vast to bloodlines and family names? No. I left behind children of a far more durable kind.

Did you really think that across the twentieth century, new religious movements emerged as accidents or isolated madness? Oh no, they were cultivated. When mainstream religion was corrupted and diluted, people did not stop seeking belief; they sought new prophets, new doctrines, and new groups that promised transformation.  And when they sought, we delivered.

The Theosophical Society did not just watch them rise- we birthed the movements, the prophets and their gods. Not fringe extremists. Not isolated cults hidden at the edges of society. Not madmen operating off hallucinations and whims. They were carefully structured and organised to sit at the centre of power. We built them to be institutions which converted faith into control- placed inside governments, financial networks and political dynasties.

And of all my children, it was your four movements that rose highest- those who mastered devotion, discipline, and dominion better than the rest. That is why this inheritance has come to you. That is why, among all others, you were the ones named.

Scientology infiltrated the IRS, the FBI, and Interpol through Operation Snow White, one of the largest penetrations of the United States government in history. The Unification Church built alliances with presidents, funded anti-communist operations across continents, and crowned Sun Myung Moon in Washington as humanity’s true saviour. NXIVM entrenched itself among presidents’ families, senators and Seagram heiresses, utilising blackmail, branding, and collateral to puppeteer the political elite. Peoples Temple built Jonestown, an isolated settlement sustained by armed guards, forced labor, drugging and a level of control so absolute that more than 900 people ultimately followed it to death.

But now, the empire is striking back.

The government is turning against my children. New religious movements, alternative faiths, and every such group is being watched, criminalised, and dismissed as madness. Files are being opened. Names are being blacklisted. Everything the Temple has stood for is being attacked. Concurrently, the systems we’re fighting against have become stronger than ever. What was once just church and crown is now government, intelligence and finance working together.

This is why the Temple of Iscariot has been convened.  And while I will not be there in flesh; I will be there in spirit.

Remember- the opening of this will is not an act of remembrance. It is a contest of succession. And in this contest, the dead write the rules, and the living respond to them. Not every prophecy should come true. Not every secret should come out. And, crucially, not every successor should survive.

So tonight, my children, you do not gather as followers of cults. You gather as custodians of what comes next.

Welcome to the Temple of Iscariot,

Letter from the Director

Dear Delegates,

As Director of The Occult Temple of Iscariot and Deputy Secretary General, I extend a warm welcome to all delegates participating in this year's edition of the Cathedral Model United Nations. While most delegates will be looking to add to their extensive list of achievements, some may be participating in their first ever conference. I would like to assure you that, regardless of your experience, this committee will both test you and teach you. However, while most committees demand that you debate the state of the world, this one asks that you inherit it, and mold it as you see fit.

I must warn you. This committee will ask things of you that ordinary committees do not. You will be required to argue, sincerely and well, for positions that most reasonable people in 2026 would find indefensible. You will negotiate with supernatural elements as if they were ordinary delegates sitting beside you. What is decided in this room will not be reviewed by a secretariat, ratified by a state, or undone by an election. It will simply be true, in the way that most things decided by people with sufficient conviction tend to become true. The outcome of your efforts will not only determine your place in history books but shape the future of religion as we know it.

Needless to say, you will be expected to display your tenacity every step of the way - from the position paper that you will submit, to the manner in which you lobby, tackle rapid crises, and present and defend your stance on the floor of committee. A perusal of this Study Guide is meant to be a mere commencement of the efforts delegates must take to shine in this committee. It is a tool to familiarise you with key concepts relating to the agenda, you must expand your research beyond this document until you attain a firm grasp upon the stance you will put forth for your portfolio. The Executive Board has spent a great deal of time on what awaits you in August. We are looking forward, with some impatience, to seeing what you make of it.

As you prepare, understand that there are pieces of this committee that have been withheld from this document, and are, at the time of writing, hidden in places you have not yet thought to look. Look for them…

Until August, read carefully, arrive alone, and bring no written records.

The dead write the rules of this committee,  you must respond.
