About CMUN

The Cathedral Model United Nations (CMUN) is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious student-run conference in India. Each year, it brings together students from across the country and around the world for three days of rigorous debate, diplomacy, and intellectual exchange.

Delegates assume the roles of national representatives, engage in multifaceted committees, and deliberate on issues of global significance. Beyond building confidence in articulating perspectives on world affairs, participants develop a deeper understanding of international politics, history, and multilateral negotiation. CMUN cultivates research, collaboration, critical thinking, and leadership, equipping students to engage thoughtfully with both the past and the future.

Founded in 1996 with a single committee,  the Asia and Pacific Council, CMUN has grown into a conference hosting up to ten committees and more than 500 delegates. Over the years, it has expanded its reach and influence: welcoming delegates from outside Mumbai in 2005, extending beyond the Cathedral campus in 2010, and transitioning successfully to a virtual format during the global lockdowns of 2020 and 2021.

The 2022 conference marked a return to in-person debate, welcoming over 400 delegates and reaffirming CMUN’s high academic standards. CMUN 2024 further strengthened this legacy through meticulous organisation and an exceptional calibre of discourse, emerging as one of the most distinguished editions in its history.
